Sentence Structure Notes and Practice

Today in my ILA classes, we took notes on sentence structure. I gave the students an assignment to complete about simple and compound sentences. On the back side of the worksheet, we had to identify independent and dependent clauses. We’ll classify them tomorrow in class. The key to success is effort. Here is the link to the Google Slide presentation I showed in class today as a refresher. I also included a link to the worksheet we did in class as homework.

Grammar Gurus

It is my intention to work on grammar along with literature circles during the last few weeks of the school year. Expect to work the logical side of the brain as we look at sentence structure, functions of sentences, etc. Parents, you may get a refresher course as I endeavor to make my final efforts of preparation for seventh grade language arts. Hold on to your hats!

P. S. It is my hope that they will be grammar gurus as a result. 🙂

Parts of Speech Collection – HW

Collect a list of examples of the eight parts of speech.  If they have a hobby, I want them to use words related to their hobby.  This list may be typed or handwritten, but it is due on Tuesday for a daily grade.   For example, I might choose novel, library, mystery, and Agatha Christie as some of my nouns because I love to read. One of my soccer fanatics might choose referee, field, ball, whistle, etc.  I hope this helps.
I sent my first email of the year to parents’ emails I have on file from the syllabus signature sheets.  If you didn’t receive an email from me, please email me, and I will add you to the list when I return to school on Tuesday.  Thanks!
