Story Board – “The Fun They Had”

Today in ILA, we worked on bringing Isaac Asimov’s classic science fiction short story “The Fun They Had” to life with visuals. Students were asked to illustrate the elements of plot including the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. I have included the link to the directions below. I hope this helps. Have a great weekend. Be kind, and do good!

Research Project

We’ve been working on an embedded assessment of researching an object that has changed over time. The students are using Chromebooks as they cite their information and images to create a written and visual presentation for the project.

Just to Clarify!

All students should have page 16 and the top half of page 17 in their Springboard workbooks completed when they arrive at class tomorrow.  They will need colored pencils and/or markers, too.  Thanks for signing up for the Remind service in class today.  See the email I sent home on Wednesday about signing up.  Take care, and God bless.

News Broadcast Project

We’ve been diligently working on the news broadcast embedded assessment in our ILA and PAP ILA classes.  Students were placed into groups to collaboratively create a broadcast sharing one of the texts we’ve read this year in a factual account.  The project is a major grade and is due on Tuesday,  February 18, 2014.  Students should turn in their scripts after their presentation in class. They will be graded for their individual contributions; it will NOT be a group grade.  If students are using the GoogleDocs platform, they should share their presentations with me as a final step so that I can pull it up on my workstation on Tuesday.  Thanks for your support and encouragement of our students!

Producing a TV News Story

The Real Little Mermaid

In class today, we discussed expository writing based on the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” and the Disney movie of the same name.  Here is the original version of “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Andersen.  I warned the students that the original version doesn’t end well for the main character.  Read it for yourself to find the true context of the story.
