My Sad Little Grade Book

I have had several students absent or missing work over the past few days. As a result, my grade book is sad because there are holes in it. Holes that mean missing work. Please come in to see me if your parents received an email about absent and/or late work. My door is open at 7:55 A.M. I will be there even if I have stepped away for a moment. PLEASE come in to take care of your missing work. Thank you.

Web Site Work Week

We will spend the days of next week working on the web sites for the Europe Google Site Project. I will have only one set of Chromebooks to use, so students’ time will be divided in half. Part of the time, they will work on their flipped assignments from the Book of Knowledge, pp. 14-17, using pp. 292-299 of the NatGeo textbook. The other part of the time will be spent working on the web site itself. Because I have morning duty next week, coming in before school is not an option in my classroom. The web site is due Friday, December 9!!

Students, please use the class time that is given in a wise manner. If you need to work on your part at home, then do so to be ready. Have a great weekend!

The Once and Future Social Studies Teacher

Next August will find me in a different classroom just down the hallway teaching world cultures, the social studies course for sixth graders. I am excited to return to teaching social studies after twelve years of teaching language arts. I will never forget my grammar cop tendencies and give up my love for a good story. Now I get to bring the world to my new charges in just a few months.

As a final language arts reminder, if you are registered for PAP ILA next year in Frisco ISD schools, you need to read Jordan Sonnenblink’s Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. Make sure you do so before school begins August 22. Please take care, and God bless!

Storyboard Assignment

Students are to use the storyboard page I gave them in class today to illustrate either Dan Greenburg’s “Getting Superpowers” or their own funny incident that occurred with a relative close to their age. This is due tomorrow in class, and it should be colored. I expect the students’ best work. If a student needs the Springboard pages to complete the assignment, please check the Student Learning Hub and find the Springboard section on the ILA page. Thank you.

Word Skills Quiz – Monday

We will have a word skills quiz on Monday, September 14, and I expect my students to know the parts of speech as well.  We are working on the steps to writing a personal narrative based on an incident in their lives that has made a significant impact. I look forward to reading their words of art as we make progress towards our project’s completion.

Introduction Letter and Ivan Capp Collection Page

We spent a great deal of time editing then writing the final copies of our introduction letters in class today. If it wasn’t finished in class, then the final copy is homework. I also assigned the IVAN CAPP collection page. Students are to complete as many examples as possible. They will probably only have seven examples of conjunctions, and that is just fine. Check your Remind text from me to have an electronic copy.
