The REAL Little Mermaid

For those of my students who will not sleep well until they read the real fairy tale “The Little Mermaid,” I have attached it here.  Enjoy, and don’t say I didn’t warn you about how things turned out differently than the Disney adaptation.  That’s right; there are no singing fish or angry chefs chasing a hermit crab in Hans Christian Andersen’s tale.

Weekend Class Update

We will have a test on Friday, September 26, and a review will be forthcoming.  Your metaphor poems are due on Monday, September 22.  Be ready for a figurative language smackdown. I didn’t have enough order forms for all of my students, unfortunately, but I maintain a class on Scholastic Reading Club.  Check the link on the “fun stuff” tab on the right side of the blog.  Make it a great weekend!

Summer Reading Update

I have completed sixteen books and have started the seventeenth book for summer reading.  How are your numbers progressing?

Mrs. Johnson <><

My yearly total of books read so far is ninety-four.  If I finish six more before school starts, I will make my goal.

Novel Reminder

I had the students write down the novels they need for Monday, May 12, in their agendas.  My on-level ILA classes will need Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World.  My PAP ILA class will need The Westing Game.  Electronic downloaded copies will work this time.  Thank you.

My Pre-AP ILA class read “Lob’s Girl” by Joan Aiken and “Jeremiah’s Song” by Walter Dean Myers.  The text for both stories can be found below for you to finish your selection B assessment.

If you were absent, I am asking you to read the short stories and see me after school on Wednesday for tutorials to complete your missing work since I have morning duty this week.  Thank you, and make it a terrific Tuesday!
