The Real Little Mermaid

In class today, we discussed expository writing based on the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” and the Disney movie of the same name.  Here is the original version of “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Andersen.  I warned the students that the original version doesn’t end well for the main character.  Read it for yourself to find the true context of the story.

P. S.  I cannot post a copy of “Alberic the Wise” online, so if you need to finish up, please come in to tutorials on Monday morning at 7:55 A.M.  I will be there.

Class Notes – November 5, 2013

We went to the library today and practiced our researching skills to find a new book that we would enjoy reading.  Mrs. Taber mentioned a wonderful site that can help find a book similar to something they’ve already read.  It’s not just for kids, so parents and grandparents feel free to try it out, too.

BYOD (or Bring Your Own Device)

Students are asked to bring their electronic devices to ILA tomorrow, September 4,  for our first visit to the school library.  My librarian asked that the students bring them to try out some really interesting apps, so I encourage them to bring their iPhone, Nook, Kindle, etc. that is Internet-compatible.  Thanks for your support.

Welcome to My Class!

Dear Students,

Hello, and once again, welcome to my sixth grade ILA or PAP ILA class.  I want you to visit the link below to take a quick survey for me.  It is best if you have GoogleChrome as the browser since it’s a GoogleDocs form I am using.  We will use GoogleDocs quite a bit this year, and I want you to practice.  You will not have to sign in.  It will take a few minutes to complete.  Please do so by Tuesday, September 2.  Thank you, and have a great evening.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Johnson <><

This is a horrible looking link, but it should work.  Thanks for those who have kept trying.

P.S. The parent signature page is now open on Google.  Oops!  Have a good evening.  I think the survey link will work now.  Thanks for letting me know.

Recent Events

I’ve been reading a bit this summer, and this weekend was busy with family in town to attend a reunion.  I enjoyed my time with them and always hate to see my aunt and cousin leave for their home in Phoenix, Arizona.  It’s cooler here than in Arizona; my cousin even joked that she needed a sweater after her visit in the DFW zone.  I’ve been a frequent patron of the Frisco Public Library during the warmer parts of the day when I am in need of a little respite and want to find some new reading material.  Who knows what I’ll find today during my little trip?  Take care, and God bless, dear ones.
