Today, my PAP and on-level students completed their first CBAP writing assessment. They composed a personal narrative in a timed writing setting. Most finished and began reading their self-selected library books. After reading their library books, I am asking them to complete a reader’s response assignment. A copy of the handout was given to each student before departure today. I look forward to putting parent faces with student names tomorrow at our annual “Meet the Teacher” night.

We began working on our IVAN CAPP booklets today in class. We will work on the projects in class on Wednesday and Thursday in class and then turn them in on Friday, September 5. If the work is not completed during class time, then it will need to be finished at home. I sent home directions about the project through email this afternoon. Please let me know if you did not receive the email with the directions, and I’ll be sure to add you to my group email.
Tomorrow, we will be receiving and begin working with our Springboard Workbook. I look forward to using this resource as we work through language arts together this year. Please take care, and have a good evening. God bless.

I have attached the text of the story “Stray” by Cynthia Rylant below. Use it to finish your questions for homework, and turn them in to me tomorrow after we have class discussion. Thank you, and have a good evening.

P. S. Review your fiction notes for a quiz next week!
Here are the instructions for the introduction letter that is due on Wednesday, August 27, at the beginning of class. We brainstormed and wrote about why reading and writing are so integral to life and turned in our t-shirts. They will be fun to display in my room or hallway. I haven’t decided. Here are the directions for the introduction letter we started in class but didn’t finish. It is homework. If your student has a question, then he or she can come in tomorrow morning during tutorials with a signed pass from you in the hallway passport section of the agenda.

Introduction letter directions
The only change is that you will write ONE copy of your letter and use the front side of your paper. I look forward to reading your words of art. Take care, and have a good evening.

P. S. Here is the template for the T-shirt if your student didn’t turn one in. I’d like to display them. Please have your student decorate it and cut it out before school tomorrow if this applies to you. Thank you.
For my ILA or PAP ILA class, you will need:
I am glad you made it through Cougar Camp 2014. Welcome to my class and the adventure that is integrated language arts or ILA. Remember that PAP means Pre-AP in future references. You may come up next Tuesday, August 19, from 9:00-11:00 A.M. or 4:00-6:00 P.M. to practice your locker combinations, familiarize yourself with the building, and set up your locker. If you weren’t able to attend Cougar Camp, make sure you come up on Tuesday to acquaint yourself with the layout of the building. I will see you in class on Monday, August 25. Please make sure that you practice your school bedtime as the final week winds down because I want you ready from the first day. Take care of yourself, and enjoy time with family and friends.

P.S. Remember that PAP ILA students need to read Gary Paulsen’s My Life in Dog Years as the summer reading assignment. As mentioned in Cougar Camp today, if you write a summary of each chapter, you should be in good shape. ¡Ciao!
Students, remember that you have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, May 23. Check the class calendar for the link to the flashcards I made on Quizlet.
