Journal Challenge #1

Greetings fellow writers and welcome to my first ever journal challenge.  The topic for today is “I want to be famous for . . .”  You decide how long you need to write and how much detail you want to incorporate into it.  I’ll post my entry on Monday.  Enjoy the journey of life, darlings!

Journal Challenge

In the interest of promoting writing more than I already do, I am going to ask my students to journal three or more times for the spring break holiday.  I’ll let you take your journal home if you promise to bring it back on Monday, March 21, when we return from our holiday.  You can generate your own topics or check back to find ones that I create.  I’ll post the first one on Sunday evening.  Happy writing!

Writing Time!

Okay, before you all run mad, submit some activities that you could do on a day where you are house-bound.  I’ll start the list for you.  Rules:  All posts must be school appropriate.  Take care, and God bless, dear ones!

1.  Write in your journal.  2.  Read a book.  3.  Sew a quilt.  4.  Paint a room or accent wall in your home with parental permission.  5.  Do a manicure or pedicure.  6.  Find creative recipes and cook something neat for your family.  7.  Play a musical instrument.  8.  Exercise with an exercise DVD or on-demand instructor.  9.  Call your grandparents and talk to them.  10.  Play cards or dominoes.

Lovely limericks

Today we will take a look at limericks; this is often my students’ favorite form of poetry.  They get to write them and have fun making up some creative verses.  I think it’s the rhythm that they like the best.  I look forward to seeing your words of art today in class.  On a personal note, I am proud of the beginning band after this year’s Sandy Lake trip.  I know they are the best beginning band in the world.  Good job, guys!  The Clark choir goes to Sandy Lake contest on Friday.  Sing well!  One week from Friday, the beginning orchestra goes to Sandy Lake to rock the house.  Go strings!

Poetry Presentations

We began to present poems in class on Thursday, March 4.  I have created a wallwisher.com wall for the kids to leave their impressions of the poetry reading in class today.  It’s below my signature below.  Please have them stop by and create a sticky-note before Monday, March 8.  I want to collect their input and feedback.  Thank you.  Take care, and God bless.

Post-it!

Visit the website below and add a post-it note with an example of one of the eight parts of speech.  I have created a wall and encourage you to visit it.  Post something, and we’ll do something fun with it in class.  Be sure to write your name on the post-it note, or I won’t add it to the wall.  Have fun, and be good!

First Day of School

I think this poem sums up my ideas about what we can and cannot do.  It’s by Edgar Guest and worth a read.  We had a great first day getting to know each other.  I get to read about my kids’ likes and dislikes.  Yes, I really do not eat liver and onions or beans unless they are green beans.  They have learned a little bit about me, too.  Can\’t
