Storyboard Assignment

Students are to use the storyboard page I gave them in class today to illustrate either Dan Greenburg’s “Getting Superpowers” or their own funny incident that occurred with a relative close to their age. This is due tomorrow in class, and it should be colored. I expect the students’ best work. If a student needs the Springboard pages to complete the assignment, please check the Student Learning Hub and find the Springboard section on the ILA page. Thank you.

Word Skills Quiz – Monday

We will have a word skills quiz on Monday, September 14, and I expect my students to know the parts of speech as well.  We are working on the steps to writing a personal narrative based on an incident in their lives that has made a significant impact. I look forward to reading their words of art as we make progress towards our project’s completion.

Introduction Letter and Ivan Capp Collection Page

We spent a great deal of time editing then writing the final copies of our introduction letters in class today. If it wasn’t finished in class, then the final copy is homework. I also assigned the IVAN CAPP collection page. Students are to complete as many examples as possible. They will probably only have seven examples of conjunctions, and that is just fine. Check your Remind text from me to have an electronic copy.

Welcome Email and Remind

Today I sent an email welcoming parents to my class for the 2015-2016 school year. Students were to work on the rough draft of their introduction letters. Those rough drafts are due tomorrow. Please don’t worry about how long each paragraph is; make sure you have the right content.  See the attachment below for the directions. Please email me if there are errors on the email address preferred for contact from me at school.  If your student is confused, please send him or her to me in the morning with a pass in the passport section of their student planner.

Have a great Wednesday evening.

New Unit for Springboard

We will begin working on Unit II of our Springboard workbooks this week.  Our efforts will culminate in an original short story, but we’ll read some published examples and practice writing descriptively.  Here are a few of Aesop’s fables to read.  Please do this before Monday, November 17, 2014, just to have more background material in your arsenal.  Have fun!

Novel Reminders

My PAP ILA classes should have their study questions completed for chapters 25-32 of Walk Two Moons and vocabulary for chapters 25-44. You should have at least four journal entries for this week for each of the reading sections. Study guide questions and vocabulary are on the Student Learning Hub under the Assignment tab.

My ILA class should have their chapter 10-13 questions for Where the Red Fern Grows completed on Monday, October 20.  You will check them in class; if you misplaced your copy of the questions, you will find electronic versions on the Student Learning Hub under the Class Novels tab along with the audio for chapters 9-13.

Personification/Hyperbole Cartoon

I look forward to seeing my students’ creativity unleashed with the personification/hyperbole cartoons.  They will make four (4) total drawings with two for personification and two for hyperbole.  Yes, the illustrations need to be in color.  Yes, they need to write the example on their artwork.  I wanted them to play with language in the same manner as an author and to see how we use figurative language to express ourselves.

Here is an example:  The run down house appeared depressed.

  • Figurative – draw a house with a face and sad expression.
  • Literal – draw an abandoned-looking house with a for sale sign in front of it.

Just to Clarify!

All students should have page 16 and the top half of page 17 in their Springboard workbooks completed when they arrive at class tomorrow.  They will need colored pencils and/or markers, too.  Thanks for signing up for the Remind service in class today.  See the email I sent home on Wednesday about signing up.  Take care, and God bless.

Character Analysis Essays

This major project grade is due tomorrow, Friday, May 9, when you walk into my classroom.  We’ll take a moment to assemble the packets and staple, but you should have all of the pieces with you when you arrive to my classroom. Check your school email account, and ask your parents (nicely) to print off anything you need from organizer to rubric. Do you not have ink in the printer at home? Go to the Integration Lab tomorrow morning and print it off there.  Remember to keep on working diligently because although the end of the school  year is getting closer, it’s still not here yet. Stay strong in your efforts. Turn in your work on time.
