Reminder – Holes

Your questions and vocabulary for chapters 34-45 of Holes is due on Monday, April 14.  We will go over them in class at that time. Don’t forget to bring in your canned goods.  We still have time to donate to Frisco Family Services.  Thank you to those families who have already generously donated to the canned food drive.   Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Writing a Letter in the Voice of a Character

I have put the directions for the embedded assessment on the class calendar.  Please make sure you follow all of the steps to complete your paper in a timely fashion.  Your final copy is now due Monday, April 7, at the beginning of the class period.  This is the second major grade for the marking period that ends Friday, April 18.

We have concentrated on drama this week in ILA and PAP ILA with reading Gluskabe and Old Man Winter and an excerpt You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. We traveled to the Lands Beyond and had a spectacular STAAR practice on Friday, April 4.  Be ready for the big day ahead.

Class Calendar

Check the class calendar today to find the lesson plans and the steps of the Embedded Assessment we are completing in class this week.  Bring your snack to your third period class on Tuesday and your seventh period class on Wednesday.  It should be in a sealed sandwich-sized bag.  Lunch will be at 12:00 P.M. both days.  Be kind, and do the right thing.

Double-entry Journals

Students are being asked to record their questions, impressions, and opinions as we read Holes by Louis Sachar.  Here is the breakdown of journal entries so far.  Some students write down words and phrases they find interesting; some record figurative language and/or literary devices.  There is some information on the class calendar to the right of this blog entry.

Chapters 1-5: Write two journal entries.

Chapters 6-12: Write six journal entries.

Chapters 13-16: Write three journal entries.

Last Weekend of Winter

Here are my totals for the weekend, beloveds. March 15- 35 minutes, March 16 – 41 minutes

Bring your copy of Holes to class on Monday, March 17.  We will be reading in class, and I don’t want you to miss out on a single thing.  Also, wear green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  If you like Sonic Drive-In, give the cook in your family a break and head there on Monday.  The cheeseburgers are half-price all day long.  Enjoy!

I am about one-third of the way through House of Hades by Rick Riordan.  Hopefully, I can finish before tomorrow morning. If you see me before my coffee, don’t make eye contact because I’ve been up all night reading, most likely.

P. S. Remember the first day of spring is Thursday, March 20.

Reading and Exercising

Are you reading your SSR book over the spring break holiday?  A project is coming after the vacation, so be on the lookout for it.  I’ve been exercising at least ten minutes per day as you can see from my recent totals.  To those who are continuing to exercise: keep up the good work!
